I was gone today.... My husband I took a quick trip to Orlando, Florida. A substitute was here in my place. What follows is a brief summary of the agenda she used in my absence... It is my understanding that she did everything you see here. If there are discrepancies, we can discuss those in class on Thursday.
G2 - FYI: Volunteer student leaders conducted class today for Extra Credit. Frederick Douglass outlines DUE. Journal: Write about the most interesting woman you have ever known. Discussion. Discussed the biographical notes I passed out over Kate Chopin's biography from the textbook. Read "A Pair of Silk Stockings" (in textbook) out loud to the students. Students discussed the story as they read. Added up the amount of money that she would have spent if it had been today... it was quite a bit! Passed out Vocab. List #19 and told the students to start studying... the test date is on the calendar. Also passed out a copy of a second Chopin short story, "The Story of an Hour". Assignment: Students should read this very short story (handout) and choose EITHER "A Pair of Silk Stockings" OR "The Story of an Hour" for the outline assignment that is due on Thursday. Material from both stories will be covered on the test at the end of this unit.
G3 - Pleasure reading and reading logs were completed today. The substitute signed off on the pleasure reading logs for me. If students did not have her sign them, they were not paying attention to instructions. :( A bad report was given to me for G3's behavior. I will address this in class on Friday. Students viewed an 11 minute video clip of Romeo and Juliet (the older film version). (Depending on what the sub decided to do, she may have shown it to them twice.) Students were then given a review sheet to complete and study for the quiz on Thursday. Assignments: 1.) Complete the Fact and Opinion worksheet. 2.) Review Act I: Scene 1, the notes taken from the board in class last week, and the packets on William Shakespeare. 3.) Quiz on Thursday over all of this material.
G4 - Pleasure reading and reading logs were completed today. The substitute signed off on the pleasure reading logs for me. If students did not have her sign them, they were not paying attention to instructions. :( I received an excellent report for G4. :) Students viewed an 11 minute video clip of Romeo and Juliet (the older film version). (Depending on what the sub decided to do, she may have shown it to them twice.) Students were then given a review sheet to complete and study for the quiz on Thursday. G4 was given time to read in class if needed. Assignments: 1.) Review Act I: Scene 1, the notes taken from the board in class last week, and the packets on William Shakespeare. 2.) Quiz on Thursday over all of this material.
