April 29, 2011 (Gold) SSR Day

G2 - Final Drafts of the Research Paper were due at the beginning of the block for extra credit.  They were due by the end of the block from everyone else.  Assignment: NONE!

G3 - Homework questions for "Doing Nothing is Something" DUE.  Went to the computer lab to go over ECA Practice Test #2, then we returned to the room to work on one last set of comma exercises in the Grammar book.  After we went over the comma exercises, students began working through a sample ECA practice test.  No Assignment!

G4 - SSR.  Writing Plan DUE.  Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis DUE from a few more people.  Went through expectations for the outline assignment.  Students worked in the computer lab for the rest of the block.  Assignment:  Outline due next time for peer-editing.  Keep working on your paper.

April 28, 2011 (Blue)

B2/B4 - Took students to the computer lab to go over ECA Practice Tests #1 and #2.  We then returned to the room and went over the practice test from the book and the SOAPSTone for "Abolishing the Penny..."  Assignment: NONE!  ECA TESTING FOR THIS CLASS STARTS ON FRIDAY NEXT WEEK! 

B3 - Research paper packets were due to be completed and shown to me by the end of the block today.  Packets may be completed for late credit and turned in next time.  Assignment: Final Drafts of the Research Paper are DUE on Monday by the end of the block.  Students who turn it in at the beginning of the block on Monday may receive 10 extra credit points. 

 

April 27, 2011 (Gold) SSR Day

G2 - Research paper packets were due to be completed and shown to me by the end of the block today.  Packets may be completed for late credit and turned in next time.  Assignment: Final Drafts of the Research Paper are DUE on Friday by the end of the block.  Students who turn it in at the beginning of the block on Friday may receive 10 extra credit points. 

G3 - Passed back and went over some graded work.  Took students to the computer lab to go over ECA Practice Test #1.  After lunch, students worked on their assignment.  Assignment: Read and answer questions 1-4, 6, and 8-9 on p. 583 over "Doing Nothing Is Something" (p. 579-582).  Please also complete a SOAPSTone for this piece as well.

G4 - Comparative Analysis Final Drafts DUE from several of you.  Collected permission slips and money, then we went to the Public Library for students to work on research for their Trend papers for the entire block.  Assignment:  Writing Plan due on Friday.  A few people have final drafts of the Comparative Analysis paper due on Friday as well.  Research, research, research!!

B2/B4 -  Students went to the computer lab and took ECA Practice Test #2 for a grade.  NO ASSIGNMENT.

B3 - Students worked on their packets all period. I checked notecards and walked them through the next steps.  Assignment: Finish the packet for Thursday.

G2 - Students worked on their packets all period. I checked notecards and walked them through the next steps.  Assignment: Finish the packet for Wednesday.

G3 - Students went to the computer lab and took ECA Practice Test #2 for a grade.  NO ASSIGNMENT.

G4 - Writing Plan assignment distributed. Students went to the computer lab for the entire block.  Assignment: Final Draft of the Comparative Analysis DUE for most of you on Wed. Permission slips and money due Wed. Public Library Trip on Wed.

B2/B4 - Took students to the computer lab to take ECA Practice Test #1.  That is all we were able to do today.   NO ASSIGNMENT!

B3 - Students worked on their packets the entire block.  I signed off on various parts of the packet as they were completed.  Everyone left the room today with their notecards.  Assignment:  Complete Steps IV - VIII for next time.

 

 

April 21, 2011 (Gold)

G3 - Passed back some graded work, then took students to the computer lab to take ECA Practice Test #1.  That is all we were able to do today.  NO ASSIGNMENT!

G4 - Collected some permission slips and money for the field trip.  Comparative Analysis Rough Drafts were returned to most of you today.  If you received your paper today, your final draft will be due on Wed., April 27 (the day we go to the Public Library).  I will track down the remaining 4 people tomorrow.  Those four people will have their final papers due Friday, April 29.  I walked through two handouts.  One of the handouts tells you how to take notes and properly cite your sources in your papers.  The other handout walks you through several different "formulas" for documenting your sources on the Works Cited and Works Consulted pages of your paper (bibliography entries).  Once we were able to get through this information, I found computers available in the Cougar Cafe, and students went down there for the rest of the block to start doing some preliminary research for their trend papers.  Assignment: Bring permission slips and money to me next time!  Be working on your final draft of the Comparative Analysis paper.

April 20, 2011 (Blue)

B2/B4 - Passed back and went over quite a bit of graded work.  Grammar: Finished comma exercises today (p. 255-258).  Next, students took a practice assessment in the book (p. 678-683) and we started going over it.  We will finish going over this test and the article about the penny next time.   Assignment: Read "Doing Nothing is Something" (p. 579-582), do ?'s 1-10 on p. 583, and work out the SOAPSTone information for it. 

B3 - Students worked on their Research Paper packets the entire block today.  We are taking our time on this assignment, and we were only able to get through a few steps.  I went around the room and checked to make sure every student had completed Steps I, II, and III, and I helped them work on Step IV.  We are a little behind schedule on the calendar, but I would rather take the time to do it right than push them too fast through this material.  I will create a revised calendar when needed.  Assignment: Finish Steps IV (Defining unknowns) and V (asking questions) for next time.

April 19, 2011 (Gold)

G2 - After printing the articles needed for the day, we started working together on the Research Paper packet.  We were able to get through steps I, II, III, and IV in class today.  Assignment:  Finish Step IV - Defining Unknowns (as needed). 

G3 - Homework questions from "Blowup" DUE.  SAT Vocab. Test #12.  After the vocab. test, we started working on commas in the Grammar book (Read p. 251-253 and do ex. A only on p. 254).   After Grammar, we began discussing "Blowup" using AP acronyms SOAPSTONE and MESHY.  Assignments: Read "Abolishing the Penny..." (p. 588-590) and analyze the article using SOAPSTONE.  ALSO... Please get on Moodle and register for the English/Language Arts "Course" for the English 10 ECA Prep.  The enrollment key is ECA10.  All you have to do is enroll for now.  We will be going to the lab later this week to take the test.

G4 - Comparativ e Analysis Rough Drafts DUE for my comments today.  I gave students new calendars, permission slips for our trip to the Public Library, and walked through the details and specifications about the Trend Analysis paper.  We spent quite a bit of time in class discussing possible topics today.  Assignment: Bring your permission slip and money in for the Public Library trip.  Create a list of 10 general questions related to your trend that you could potentially answer in the computer lab on Monday.  That's it. :)

B2/B4 - Homework questions from "Blowup" DUE.  SAT Vocab. Test #12.  After the vocab. test, we started working on commas in the Grammar book (Read p. 251-253 and do ex. B3 - We spent half the period today printing the two articles students were asked to print for homework last time. :(  After lunch, we started working together on the Research Paper packet.  We were able to get through steps I, II, and III in class today.  Assignment:  Finish Step III (if needed).
