April 16, 2012 (Blue)

B2/B3/B4 - Checked packets. B2 was asked to have rough drafts or outlines completed for today. B3 and B4 were given the option to have them done for extra credit. Students were taken to the computer lab to work on their papers for the entire block today. Students received instructions for typing their papers (handout), and they also received a copy of the rubric I will be using to grade their final drafts. Assignment: Typed drafts due for peer-editing on Wednesday.

April 13, 2012 (Gold)

G1/G2 - I went around the room to check progress with each student on the Research Paper Packets. Students were expected to have Steps I-V completed at the beginning of the block today. I gave everyone printer paper to use for Step VI and asked students to work independently for the rest of the block. In some cases, it took me the entire block to make my way around the room to touch base with all students. Assignments: G2 - Complete the packet (including the rough draft or a detailed outline) for Tuesday. In G1, please complete Steps VI - XII. G1, you may also complete the last step (Step XIII - a detailed outline or rough draft) for up to 10 points extra credit. Please stay on top of this assignment. The drafting stage will go very quickly next week.

G3 - Groups chose global topics for Trend research. I distributed copies of a sample Works Cited page which includes the three entries you are required to use for the paper. Checked Draft #2 of the Comparative Analysis paper. Students peer-edited and revised for the remainder of the block today. Assignment: Complete Draft #3 for Tuesday for peer-editing. I will not be collecting them as planned... they will not be ready for me until Thursday at this point. Be sure to include your own copy of the Works Cited page in your revision. I am slowly getting to the Comparative Critique rough drafts and hope to have them all back to you by Tuesday.

G1/G2 - Passed back some graded work and gave students new Grade Record Sheets. Students were given a pretty hefty Research Paper packet today. We went to the computer lab so students could print two (or three if absolutely needed) APPROVED articles from the list of links given to them via Moodle. Please stick to the approved list you have been given. Once students printed their articles, I checked them off of my list and asked them to work on Steps I-V in the packet for Friday. Assignment: Complete Steps I-V in the Research Paper packet for Friday. Please see me if you have ANY questions.

G3 - Checked outlines (Draft #1). Students discussed global trend topics with their groups. We were in the computer lab for the entire block today so students could work on the second drafts of their papers. Assignment: Meet in Lab D127 on Friday. Draft #2 due for peer-editing that day. We will also finalize Trend topics for your groups on Friday.

G1/G2 - Passed back graded work.  A few students took make-up quizzes or Binder Quizzes today.  For most of the block, students took notes over the god and goddess Family Tree of Greek Mythology.  If you were not here, please copy the notes during class next week.  At the end of the block, students chose names out of "a hat" for research.  There was a 30 second opportunity to swap with someone, then I asked students to commit to whatever they had at that time.  I recorded a copy of "who has whom."  We will start the research activities next week.  No Assignment unless you were absent... copy notes for the God/Goddess Family Tree.

G3 - Finished watching Matilda today.  Students had the opportunity to review various parts of the movie.  In addition, I asked groups to discuss global topics for their Trend Analysis papers.  Groups discussed options and will commit to global topics in class on Wednesday.  Assignment:  Create an outline as Draft #1 of your Comparative Analysis paper.  I do not want a regurgitation of my notes... be sure to create an outline that is filled out and unique to your paper.  We will work on writing drafts in class on Wednesday, so please be prepared for that.

G3 - Students watched and took notes over Matilda for the entire block today.  This movie is the focus of our Comparative Analysis paper in which students will be asked to determine whether or not it fits within the realm of the "Cinderella" story.  Assignment:  None!  If you were absent today, you are responsible for watching and taking your own thorough notes over this movie IMMEDIATELY.

April 4, 2012 (Blue)

B2/B3/B4 - Quiz: "Homer's World."  Students had a few minutes to review or study at the beginning of the block before they took the quiz.  For the rest of the block, we reviewed the highlighted packet and the notes that were covered in class last time.  I read a children's book about the Greek gods and goddesses to preview the notes and discussion for Friday.  Some of these classes received their Night papers back today.  (All of them are graded... April 3, 2012 (Gold)

G1/G2 - Students were given two copies of the homework calendar today.  One goes in the binder, and one goes home.  Students were then asked to read through and highlight specific notes from an article called "Homer's World."  The first three pages will be on the quiz on Thursday.  Next, students read through pages 1094, 1096-1098 in the textbook and took notes.  Assignment:  G2 - Finish reading the pages in the book, and both classes should study for the quiz over "Homer's World."  We will finish notes next time.
