December 21, 2012 - NO SCHOOL - SNOW DAY

Due to our snow day today, Gold Finals will be postponed until Tuesday, January 8.  Here are some additional announcements:

G2 - The poetry terms are available on Moodle, and the textbook is online at www.classzone.com.  Sand and 2333875-260 are your codes.

G3 - Last two presentations will take place on 1/8.  For those of you who had papers due to me today, please email them to me as soon as you can.  If you end up at school for some reason over Break, have someone put your rough draft in my mailbox for me.  I'll be over there sometime during Break to check for those.

G4 - Journals will still be collected before the final.  The poetry terms are available to you on Moodle.  The textbook is available online at www.classzone.com.  Shrimp and 2333875-260 are your codes.

December 20, 2012 (Blue) FINAL EXAMS

B2 - Last two groups presented.  Students taking the course for dual credit were asked to complete a survey for IU.  I passed back Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis paper today.  Please be sure to come see me in January to pick up your Research-Based Analysis papers.  Good luck next semester and in the future!! :)

B3/B4 - Collected textbooks today.  Students took the final exam and were asked to study quietly for other finals for the rest of the block. 

December 19, 2012 (Gold)

G2 - Passed back all remaining graded work today.  Students who were failing but close to passing were given assignments to work on and turn in during class.  Everyone else played Bingo with the Poetry Terms.  Assignment:  Your Final Exam will be on Friday.  You will need to turn in your textbooks that day, so please bring those with you.  You will also need a pencil for the Final. 

G3 - I collected half of the Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis paper today.  Two groups presented.  Assignment:  The last two groups will present on Friday.  The second half of the Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis paper are due on Friday.  I will need you all to complete a survey for IU on Friday, so please bring a pencil with you. 

G4 - Passed back graded work.  Students went through their journals, and we compiled a master list.  Journals are expected to be half-page each, all completed, titled, and dated properly.  I will collect them on Friday with the rubrics I distributed in class today.  For the remainder of the block, we played Vocab. Bingo with the poetry terms.  Assignment:  Your Final Exam will be on Friday.  You will need to turn in your textbooks that day, so please bring those with you.  You will also need a pencil and some paper for the Final.  Journals DUE on Friday.

December 18, 2012 (Blue)

B2 - I collected Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis paper today.  Two groups presented.  Assignment:  The last two groups will present on Thursday.  I have half of your Comparative Analysis final drafts graded. I hope to have those finished and ready for you on Thursday.  I will need you to complete a survey for IU on Thursday, so please bring a pencil with you.

G2/G4 - Collected 10 Things about "Birches" and 10 Things about "The Witch of Coos."  Today's poetry theme was The End of the World.  Depending on the class, the schedule was a little bit different.  Both classes read and discussed "A Song on the End of the World."  Students worked with partners to write down 10 things for this poem and turned it in for points. No Assignment! :)

G3 - Two groups presented today.  Assignment:  Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis paper are due from this class on Wednesday and Friday.  Two more groups will present on Wednesday.  This is it!  We're in the home-stretch!! :)

G2/G4 - In class today, we focused on the poetry of Robert Frost.  We first read and discussed "Birches" (p. 802-803).  Students were then asked to take notes over ten poetry terms/techniques that apply to this poem and give SPECIFIC examples.  Next, we read "The Witch of Coos" (handout) and students did the same for this poem... write down ten terms that apply with specific details and examples.  INCLUDE QUOTATIONS!  I will be collecting this poetry analysis for points on Monday.  Assignment:  Finish your ten things for each of the poems.  Please make sure you number your ten things... it will make it much easier for me to grade them!!

B2 - Binders DUE.  We were able to get a computer lab today, so students worked on final presentations and final drafts of their Research-Based Analysis papers.  Assignment:  Final Presentations begin on Friday.  Your Research-Based Analysis papers are all due on Tuesday.

December 11, 2012 (Gold)

G2/G4 - Today we read and discussed "Animal" poetry.  We began by listening to and discussing "Blackbird" by The Beatles.  G2 listened to Sarah McLachlan's version of the song.  G4 listened to the original.  The agenda differed somewhat from class to class.  In G2, we also listened to and discussed "Free Bird," by Lynyrd Skynyrd.   In G4, students created a journal entry in which they described their favorite stuffed animal from their childhood - for a child.  They then underlined the nouns.  With mostly only the nouns, they created a very short poem about that stuffed animal.  In both classes, we read and discussed at least two of the following with the remainder of our time together: "The Fish," "Christmas Sparrow," and "The Sloth" (p. 714-718).  No Assignment! :)

B2 - Returned Rough Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis today.  Students went to the computer lab and worked on revisions of their papers and their final presentations.  Toward the end of the block, groups drew for the opportunity to choose their time slots for the presentations.  Assignment:  Binders will be collected on Wednesday.  We do not have a lab on Wednesday, so please Bring Your Own Device.  Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis are ALL due on Tuesday, December 18, from this class.  Presentations will start on Friday.
