May 29, 2014 (Gold) FINAL EXAMS - LAST GOLD DAY!

G1 - No Class! Senior Brunch!  All grades have been submitted.  If you have a final paper to pick up, you may do so today or tomorrow.  If I don't see you, I will put your paper in your graduation packet down in the office.  Congratulations!!

G2/G3 - Exit Letters DUE in G3.  We wrapped up Final Presentations today. Students were asked to take their journals home.  I collected novels and textbooks at the end of the block.  Assignment: I need all novels and textbooks back as soon as you can get them to me.  Have a great summer!

May 28, 2014 (Blue) LAST BLUE DAY! FINAL EXAMS

B1 - Exit Letters DUE.  We wrapped up Final Presentations today. Students were asked to take their journals home.  I collected novels and textbooks at the end of the block.  Assignment: If you did not get your Exit Letter turned in to me today, please do so by tomorrow afternoon.  I also need all novels and textbooks back as soon as you can get them to me.  Have a great summer!

B3/B4 - Movie Comparison Worksheets DUE.  Students took their Final Exam today.  I collected all textbooks and passed back all remaining graded work.  If you did not turn in your textbook, please get that turned in to me immediately.  Have a great summer!

 

May 27, 2014 (Gold)

G1 - We wrapped up final presentations today. I passed back all but four of the final drafts of the last paper.  Students who registered for the course for credit through IU completed surveys.  I will be wrapping up grades for this class today and tomorrow.  Congratulations! No class on Thursday!

G2/G3 - We continued final presentations today. I collected some of the novels from speakers today.  If you haven't taken your journal out of the tote for this class, please be sure to get it next time.  Assignments: Last set of presentations will be given on Thursday.  G3 - You have Exit Letters due to me on Thursday.  Please bring back all of your books to turn in to me next time, too.

May 23, 2014 (Blue)

B1 - Several students gave their Final Presentations today.  We were able to read part of Act II in class.  Assignments: Exit Letters are due next time (the last day).  Presentations will continue. Be prepared with your handout and your copy of the rubric when you present.  

B3/B4 - Binder Quiz.  After the BQ, students finished watching O Brother, Where Art Thou?  Assignment: Finish the movie comparison worksheet to turn in next time.  Your Final Exam is on Wednesday. I do expect you to study, especially the parts about To Kill a Mockingbird, since it was so long ago.  Please bring your textbook to turn in that day.

May 22, 2014 (Gold)

G1 - Two groups presented today.  I passed back Comparative Analysis papers.  Assignments: We will wrap up the last two presentations next week.  Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis paper are due to me tomorrow by 4pm.

G2/G3 - Several students gave their Final Presentations today.   Assignments: Exit Letters are due next week on the last day for G3.  Presentations will continue on Tuesday. Be prepared with your handout and your copy of the rubric when you present.  I have posted some sample museum exhibits on my Moodle page for you to see.  Good luck!

May 21, 2014 (Blue)

B1 - Groups presented the entire block today.  We didn't rush through them, but we ran out of time. We will need to move a little faster on Thursday, so please come in prepared to go right away.  Overall feedback from today: Share textual support (quotations) for each person orally, connect the characters or authors to museum audiences and why they'd be interested.  We saw some really good things today... I hope to see more in the coming week!  Journals were returned today as well. Assignments: Exit Letters are due next week on the last day.  Presentations will continue this Friday. Be prepared with your handout and your copy of the rubric when you present.  I have posted some sample museum exhibits on my Moodle page for you to see.  Good luck!

B3/B4 - Study Guides DUE for "Death in the Great Hall" and "The Trunk of the Olive Tree."  Students began watching O Brother, Where Art Thou? and worked on their comparison worksheets.  I also distributed copies of the Final Review Sheet.  It will not be collected for a grade, but students are HIGHLY encouraged to study for this final, especially the parts about To Kill a Mockingbird.   Assignments:  Please have your Binder here and well-organized on Friday.  You will be taking your last Binder Quiz at the beginning of the block.  We will finish the movie and worksheet in class after the Binder Quiz next time.  

May 20, 2014 (Gold)

G1 - Students worked on their final presentations and their revisions of the Research-Based Analysis paper.  For the second half of the block, the first group gave their Final Presentation.  Assignments: Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis paper are due to me on Friday by 4pm. Presentations will continue in class on Thursday.

G2/G3 - Journals DUE.  For the first half of the block, students were given time to work on their final presentations.  For the second half of the block, we read Act II of 12 Angry Men.  Assignment: Final Presentations will begin next time. Exit Letters are due from G3 on the last day of class.

May 19, 2014 (Blue)

B1 - Journals DUE.  Students were given time to work a little bit in class on their final presentations. Students signed up for their time slots.  For the remainder of the block, we started reading Act I of 12 Angry Men.  Assignments:  Final Presentations will start on Wednesday.  Exit Letters are due on your last day of class.

B3/B4 - Study Guides were due for "The Beggar at the Manor," "The Suitors," and "The Test of the Bow."  In class, we finished The Odyssey today.  We read "Death in the Great Hall" and "The Trunk of the Olive Tree" (p. 1156-1165).  For the remainder of the block, students began working on a worksheet that will compare the story to the movie we will be watching in class next time.  Assignment: Complete the study guide for the readings from today.  Complete the Odyssey side of the worksheet for the movie comparison.

May 16, 2014 (Gold)

G1 - Binders DUE.  I passed back Rough Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis today.  Students worked on their binders, final presentations, and revisions of their papers in class all period. Groups chose their presentation time slots in class today.  Assignment:  Group #1 will present in the second half of the block on Tuesday.  Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis paper are due on Friday, May 23 by 4pm.  Work on revisions and presentations.  

G2/G3 - Several students took make-up SAT vocab. tests today.  I went through all of the information and expectations for the Final Presentation and the Journal Assessment, and students were given time to work a little bit in class on those pieces.  For the remainder of the block, we started reading Act I of 12 Angry Men.  Assignments: Journals are DUE next time.  Final Presentations will start on Thursday of next week.  Bring materials and devices to class on Tuesday to work on your presentations.  Exit Letters are due from G3 on the last day of school.

 

May 15, 2014 (Blue)

B1 - SAT Vocab. Test #35 (the last one!).  Act III Worksheet DUE.  Students worked with partners/small groups to discuss several issues stemming from A Raisin in the Sun.  I collected copies of A Raisin in the Sun and distributed copies of 12 Angry Men.  I then gave students a list of the journal prompts for the entire semester. I will be collecting journals next time, so please check the list to make sure you have everything completed.  For the remainder of the block, I distributed materials you will need for the Final Presentation assignment.  Students drew numbers to determine who will be picking which days to present.   Assignment: Read Acts I and II of 12 Angry Men. Be ready for a quiz.  Start working on your Final Presentation.  Bring all of your materials from first semester back to class on Monday.  It is a Bring Your Own Device Day on Monday... Come prepared to dig up the past and to get busy on your Final! :) 

B3/B4 - Study Guides for "Cattle of the Sun God" and "Father and Son" DUE.  I passed back a mountain of graded work today, including the Mythology Research Papers.  We are about a day behind on the majority of our calendar, so in class today, we were able to read "The Beggar at the Manor" (p. 1148-1149), "The Suitors" (Handout), and "The Test of the Bow" (p. 1150-1155).  Students had about five minutes to wrap up the study guide and get it turned in before they left for the day.  Assignment: If you were absent, please read the readings you missed in class today and do the study guide for these readings.  Vocabulary Test over List #2 next time... please remember to study!  The end of the semester is quickly approaching. You will have a Binder Quiz next week, so please try to work on making sure your binder is well organized and that your Grade Record Sheet is up to date and current for this nine weeks.  We will finish the story in class on Monday.
