December 19, 2014 (Gold) GOLD FINAL EXAMS

G1 - The remaining Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis paper were due today.  Students wrapped up their Final Presentations. I distributed several Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis today.  Students who took the course for credit through IU completed a survey.  Congratulations! Your work is finished! Please be patient with me as I try to get things wrapped up here at the end of the semester for my two W131 classes.  I will be finishing up the Final Exam grades, participation scores, and Research-Based Analysis papers as I have time over the course of the next few weeks.  If you have any major concerns, please email me.  I still have many, many hours of grading to do for you.  :) Have a very Merry Christmas!

G2/G4 - All textbooks are due.  Students took the Poetry Vocabulary Test and the Final Exam today. No Assignment for the Holidays.  All grades will be current and complete for these two classes by the end of the day today.  Have a very Merry Christmas! :)

 

 

December 18, 2014 (Blue) BLUE FINAL EXAMS

B1/B2 - All textbooks are due.  Students took the Poetry Vocabulary Test and the Final Exam today. No Assignment for the Holidays.  All grades will be current and complete for these two classes by the end of the day today.  Have a very Merry Christmas! :)

B3 - The remaining Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis paper were due today.  Students wrapped up their Final Presentations. G1 - Research-Based Analysis papers were due from about half of the class today.  I passed back a little more than half of the Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis paper today. I will have the rest of them finished by Friday. Two groups presented their final presentations.  Assignments: The last group will present on Friday.  The remaining Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis will be due on Friday. I will have surveys for you to complete for IU that day if you are taking the course for credit at IU.  Please be patient with me as we finish up the semester. I will do my best to get Final Presentations graded and posted by the end of the week.  I still have participation scores to configure, and it will take me quite a while to read and grade the Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis. If you have any MAJOR concerns about your grades, email me. Aside from that, follow the feedback you have been given on Rough Drafts to help you improve your papers to the best of your ability.

B1/B2 - Textbooks DUE. B2: Journals DUE. Students played Poetry Vocabulary Bingo today. I collected books, graded journals in B2, and that was about all we were able to do.  Assignments: Study for the Poetry Vocab. Test for Finals Day. Look over your notes for the semester.  The full Poetry Terms Powerpoint Presentation is posted on Moodle.

G1 - The first two groups presented their final presentations today. Presentations will continue on Wednesday.  Assignments: Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis paper are due on Wednesday and Friday of next week.  Please pay close attention to the individualized due dates you have been given on your Rough Draft comment sheets.  Final Presentations will be given by Groups 3 and 4 next time.

G2/G4 - Today's poetry theme was The End of the World. Depending on the class, the schedule was a little bit different. Both classes read and discussed "A Song on the End of the World." Students worked with partners to write down 10 things for this poem and turned it in for points.  In G2, we also generated a master list of journals from this semester.  I gave students the list of 30 Poetry terms to study for the Poetry Vocab. Test on Friday.  Assignments: You will be tested over 30 of the Poetry Terms on Finals Day as your Poetry Test (30 matching terms). I have posted the entire Poetry Terms Powerpoint Presentation on Moodle.  Bring your textbooks to turn in to me on Wednesday. We will also play Vocabulary Bingo on Wednesday with the poetry terms.  G2: Journals are due to me on Wednesday.

Pay attention to individual due dates, as they may be different.

G2/G4 - In G2 and G4, students turned in their 10 Things about "Blackbird." Today, we studied Robert Frost's poetry.  We read and discussed "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening," (on imager) "Birches," and, in G2, "The Mending Wall" (in book p. 802-805). G4 also listened to and studied "Mad World" by Gary Jules.  No Assignment!

In addition, we listened to and discussed "Mad World" by Gary Jules and "Eleanor Rigby" by the Beatles.  No Assignment!

G1 - I passed back half of the Research-Based Analysis Rough Drafts today and discussed my comments/overall impressions of the papers.  I distributed a handout over the Final Presentation and showed students a few samples.  Groups chose their time slots for their presentations. I collected half of the Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis today.  Assignments: The rest of the Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis are due on Thursday. Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis are due next week.  Please pay attention to the due dates given to you on my comment slips.  Binders are due to me next time. Bring Your Own Devices to class on Thursday.  Be working on your final presentations. The first two groups will present on Monday.

G2/G4 - Today was Animal Poetry Day.  In class, we read "The Sloth," "Christmas Sparrow," and "The Fish" (p. 714-718).  I played the Beatles song, "Blackbird." In both classes, we discussed the poetry techniques for each of these pieces.  In G2, I asked students to list and give examples or elaborate on 10 techniques used in the song (except Repetition - too obvious).  Assignment: G2: 10 Techniques used in "Blackbird" due next time as your "admittance slip." B1/B2 - Today was Animal Poetry Day.  In class, we read "The Sloth," "Christmas Sparrow," and "The Fish" (p. 714-718).  I played the Beatles song, "Blackbird." In B1, we discussed the poetry techniques for each of these pieces.  In B2, we discussed the techniques for the poems, then students elaborated on 10 techniques used in the song and turned them in to me.  Assignment: None!
