December 5, 2014 (Gold)

G1 - Students peer-edited in two 20-minute rounds.  I checked their drafts, then we went to the Computer Lab for the rest of the block so that students could work on their revisions.  Assignments: Rough Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis are due to me on Monday by 4pm.  Several of you have Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis paper due to me on Tuesday.  Please use your weekend for revisions wisely!

G2/G4 - Discussion/G2 Journal: What do you say to someone who needs Hope and Encouragement? How do you say the "just right" words?  After some discussion on the subject, we read and discussed three short poems in the book (p. 706-709).  I shared 4 "pop culture" songs of encouragement, and we discussed the meaning/intent behind each one.  Assignnment: None! Have a great weekend!

December 4, 2014 (Blue)

December 3, 2014 (Gold)

G1 - I passed back the remaining Comparative Analysis Rough Drafts today.  I am FINALLY caught up in this class! (Woohoo!)  Students spent about two 15-minute peer-editing rounds on the Research-Based Analysis. We discussed some of the major issues, then they went to the computer lab for the remainder of the block to work on their papers.  I checked drafts in the lab today. Assignments: For next time, please finish your Research-Based Analysis paper. You should include completed Works Cited and Works Consulted pages. We will peer-edit in class on Friday. The official Rough Drafts of that paper are due to me on Monday by 4pm.  Half of you have Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis due to me on Tuesday, December 9. The other half of you have Final Drafts of that paper due to me on Thursday, December 11.  Please use the week you are given wisely... those papers need quite a bit of work.  

G2/G4 - Today's poetry theme was "War."  G2 - SAT Vocab. Test #18.  Students watched some video clips, and we discussed the big question on page 442.  Students in both classes read and discussed "The Artilleryman's Vision" (p. 796+). G2 took some more notes over poetry terms.  G4 also looked at Gwendolyn Brooks' poem on page 446.  We applied the poetry terms and techniques from notes to "unpack" each poem as a class.  No Assignment!

 

December 2, 2014 (Blue)

B1/B2 - Today's poetry theme was "War."  B2 - SAT Vocab. Test #18.  Students watched some video clips, and we discussed the big question on page 442.  Students in both classes read and discussed "The Artilleryman's Vision" (p. 796+). B1 also looked at Gwendolyn Brooks' poem on page 446.  We applied the poetry terms and techniques from notes to "unpack" each poem as a class.  No Assignment!

December 1, 2014 (Gold)

G1 - I checked outlines. Students received feedback on their Writing Plans. Grades are posted. I passed back the rest of the Final Drafts of the Comparative Critique and half of the Comparative Analysis Rough Drafts. Students worked in the computer lab on their drafts today.  Assignment: For next time, I want to see at least 4 pages typed toward your draft. You should complete the Introduction, Background, and Analysis sections.  In addition, I would also like to see a Works Cited page next time so that we can begin double-checking your in-text citations for plagiarism errors.  Half of you have Comparative Analysis Final Drafts to complete for Tuesday, Dec. 9, so please be working on those as well.

G2/G4 - I shared a couple of videos, and we discussed the idea of Helping Others (theme of the day) as a transition from Immigration Reform and Thanksgiving Break.  In class, we read "The Peruvian Child" by Pat Mora (p. 548) and, in G4, "Lady Freedom Among Us" (p. 550-551).  In G2, we worked on defining several more of our poetry terms today.    G2 - SAT Vocab. Test #18 next time. G4 - No Assignment!
