April 29, 2016 (Blue)

B2/B3 - Writing Plans were DUE. I passed back Comparative Critique Final Drafts today. We went through the outline assignment together. Students had the rest of the block to work on revisions of their Comparative Analysis papers and to start working on their Outlines for the Research-Based Analysis.  Assignments: Research-Based Analysis Outlines are due next time. Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis are due next time. Be sure to bring back the Rough Draft comment slip and number codes sheet. Print two copies for extra points.

B4 - Vocabulary Worksheets DUE.  In class today, we started reading The Odyssey.  (NOTE: I have posted a copy of the entire text on Moodle.  I am still looking for a good audiobook… if you find one, please let me know.) We read "A Goddess Intervenes" (p. 1104) and "Calypso, the Sweet Nymph" (p. 1106-1109).  Students answered the worksheet questions as we read and discussed the story, then I collected the worksheet for those two pieces when we finished them. Next, we started reading the next section.  We were able to read "I am Laerte's Son" (p. 1110-1112), "The Lotus Eaters" (p. 1112), and most of "The Cyclops" (p. 1112-1121).  Again, students answered the questions on the study guide as we read and discussed it.  I collected the second worksheet from most of the students for safe-keeping. We will finish reading "The Cyclops" in class next time.  Assignments: If you did not read or finish the worksheets for the portions we read in class, try to do that for next time.  I posted the worksheets and the text on Moodle.   Start studying for the vocabulary test over List #1.

April 28, 2016 (Gold)

G1 - Students were given the entire block again today to work on research, Writing Plans, and revisions of their papers. Assignments: Writing Plans are due on Monday. Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis are due on Wednesday, May 4.

G3/G4 - Students gave their Google Slides presentations over their Mythological Figures in class today. At the end of the block, we went through the first vocabulary list for The Odyssey, and students were given a small vocabulary assignment to do for homework.  Assignment: Vocabulary assignment for List #1.  There will be a quiz over these words next week.

April 27, 2016 (Blue)

B2/B3 - Students were given the entire block again today to work on research, Writing Plans, and revisions of their papers. Assignments: Writing Plans are due on Friday. Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis are due on Tuesday, May 3.

B4 - Students gave their Google Slides presentations over their Mythological Figures in class today. G3/G4 - Students worked on Google Slides presentations for the entire block today.  Assignment: You will give your presentation over your god/goddess/monster in class next time. Please upload your Google Slides presentation by the beginning of the block next time.

April 22, 2016 (Gold)

G1 - Rough Drafts of the Comparative Analysis were due. Everyone also needed to turn in three potential inquiry questions for the Research-Based Analysis paper. I checked questions in class (as much as possible) today and gave students my opinions on their topics. We reviewed the Research-Based Analysis paper Google Slides presentation together (on Moodle), the Bibliography and Note Cards lectures (also on Moodle) and the Writing Plan assignment (also on Moodle). I gave everyone photocopies of all of these documents in class. Assignment: Final Drafts of the Comparative Critique are due next time. Be sure to bring back the rough draft with my comments, and print two copies for some extra points. Finalize your inquiry question for Tuesday, and be prepared to share that with the class. Start working on gathering your chosen sources for your paper. The Writing Plan assignment is due on Monday, May 2.

G3/G4 -  Rough Drafts of the Research Paper were due by the beginning of the block today. I used a program called "JoeZoo" to look for grammatical errors and spot-checked students' papers for major errors or missing pieces. Students had the entire block today to work on revisions and editing. Final Drafts were due by the end of the block today. In addition, I collected all packet information at the end of the block.  Assignment: None! 

 

April 21, 2016 (Blue)

B2/B3 - Comparative Critique Final Drafts were due for the second half of B3 today. Everyone had Rough Drafts of the Comparative Analysis due. Everyone also needed to turn in three potential inquiry questions for the Research-Based Analysis paper. I checked questions in class today and gave students my opinions on their topics. Comparative Critique final drafts are due on Tuesday. In addition, please read through the Google Slides presentation about the Research-Based Analysis paper which is posted on Moodle.  Write three potential questions for your Research-Based Analysis paper in a Google Doc and submit those questions to me on Google Classroom. I will help you choose your topic. The more specific and varied your questions, the better your choices will be.  I prefer to avoid any overlap on topics within each class, if at all possible.

G3/G4 - Students were asked to finish their handwritten drafts in class today and type them by the end of the block. Assignment: Please type and submit your Rough Draft of the Research Paper before class on Friday for full credit. Those of you who submitted your drafts today will receive some bonus points for getting your work turned in by the given deadline.

B2/B3 - B2 Reported to Mr. Weiland, but the plan was the same. Comparative Critique Final Drafts were DUE today (B2 - everyone; B3 - half of the class). I spot-checked drafts and commented on those which were shared with me. April 18, 2016 (Gold)

G1 - Students reported to the art room with Mr. Weiland for class today while I proctored the ISTEP+ test with sophomores. Draft #2 of the Comparative Analysis was DUE for peer-editing. I checked drafts and chimed in on peer-editing again today. Students were expected to work on revisions for the rest of the block.  Comparative Critique Rough Drafts were returned today. If you were absent, please stop by as soon as possible to pick those up from me.  Assignment: Draft #3 of the Comparative Analysis is due for peer-editing next time. Upload to Google Classroom. Be sure to include your Works Cited page and finish your paper if you haven't done so.  You also have Final Drafts of the Comparative Critique due on Tuesday of next week. Be sure to prioritize your time wisely.  You will report to the art room with Mr. Weiland again on Wednesday.  Follow instructions I send you through Google Classroom.

G3/G4 - I checked with each student again today to monitor individual progress on the Research Paper packets. Although I have several students who are still behind, many students are steadily working on their handwritten rough drafts at this point.  I hope to have students type their drafts by the end of the block on Wednesday.  As usual, I collected everything at the end of the block for safe-keeping, but students were also given the option to take their materials home with them to try and catch up before next time.  Assignment: Finish these hand-written drafts for next time.  If you need to take materials with you, please let me know you are doing so.
