May 13, 2016 (Blue)

B2/B3 - Research-Based Analysis Draft #4 DUE. Groups chose their presentation time slots.  Students peer-edited and worked on revisions for a little bit before leaving for Senior Lunch Day. Assignment: Revise what you can. Resubmit the Official Rough Draft TODAY by 4:00 pm. If you can, print your Works Cited and Works Consulted pages for me and bring them to me by 4:00 for some extra points.  I will be giving you limited, brief comments on these drafts in order to return them to you by Tuesday.  Start working on your group presentation. Binders will be collected next week. Start working on those when you can.  Have a good weekend!

B4 - Reading Guides were due for "The Beggar at the Manor," "The Suitors," and "The Test of the Bow."  In class, we finished The Odyssey today.  We read "Death in the Great Hall" and "The Trunk of the Olive Tree" (p. 1156-1165).  For the remainder of the block, we played Vocabulary Bingo.  Assignment: Complete the study guide for the readings from today (if needed).  Study for the Vocabulary Test over List #2 for Tuesday.

G1 - Draft #3 of the Research-Based Analysis DUE for peer-editing. In class today, students peer-edited, and I commented on their drafts. I handed out a copy of the details regarding the Final Presentations (info also on Moodle). We’ll discuss the final presentations more next time. Be prepared to make a decision about the day your group will present.  Assignments: Draft #4 of the Research-Based Analysis is due next time for peer-editing. Draft #5 will be due to me by 4pm on Monday. If you are able to print your Works Cited and Works Consulted pages for me ahead of time, I will give you a few extra points. Drop those off whenever you can before 4pm.  Hang in there! The rest of the semester is going to FLY!

G3/G4 -Vocabulary Assignment for List #2 DUE. We finished the readings from last time.  Reading Guides for "Cattle of the Sun God" and "Father and Son" DUE.   Once we were caught up, we were able to read "The Beggar at the Manor" (p. 1148-1149), "The Suitors" (Handout), and "The Test of the Bow" (p. 1150-1155).   Assignment: If you were absent, please read the readings you missed in class today and do the reading guide.  Vocabulary Test over List #2 next week... please remember to study!  The end of the semester is quickly approaching. You will have a Binder Quiz soon, so please try to work on making sure your binder is well-organized and up to date and current for this nine weeks.  We will finish the story in class next time.

G3/G4 - We caught up on the readings from last time (as needed), then the Reading Guides for "The Sirens, Scylla, and Charybdis" were DUE.  In class today, we went through Vocabulary List #2, then we read "The Cattle of the Sun God" (Handout) and "Father and Son" (p. 1142-1147). Students also took notes over the Timeline for The Odyssey in class today.    Assignment: Complete the vocabulary assignment for next time.  Start studying Vocab. List #2 for the test next week.

The plan was the same as usual.  Research-Based Analysis Draft #2 was DUE for peer-editing (4 typed pages plus Works Cited and Works Consulted). I checked drafts, and students peer-edited. G3/G4 - Vocabulary Test: List #1 for The Odyssey. Students were given some time at the beginning of the block to study before the vocabulary test. After the test, we read and discussed "The Land of the Dead" (handout) and "The Sirens; Scylla and Charybdis" and attempted to complete the corresponding reading guides. In Gold 3, we were unable to finish the second piece, so we will finish it next time. I collected reading guides from almost everyone at the end of the block for safe-keeping. Assignment: If you did not complete and turn in the reading guides for today's reading, please do so for next time. If you are behind on any of these, please complete them over the weekend. The text is posted on Moodle along with extra copies of these reading guides.

After the test, we read and discussed "The Land of the Dead" (handout) and "The Sirens; Scylla and Charybdis" and completed the corresponding reading guides. I collected those at the end of the block.  Assignment: If you did not complete and turn in the reading guides for today's reading, please do so for next time. If you are behind on any of these, please complete them over the weekend. The text is posted on Moodle along with extra copies of these reading guides.

G1 - Outlines DUE. Comparative Analysis Final Drafts DUE.  I went through the Plagiarism lecture and a sample paper. Students worked on their drafts for the rest of the block.  Assignment: Please draft out the introduction and one major section of your paper for next time (at least 2 full pages). Include a Works Consulted page, so we can start working on making sure your sources are documented and cited properly.

G3/G4 - In class today, we reviewed the story so far, then we finished "The Cyclops" (p. 1112-1123) and "Circe" (p. 1124-1125) and the corresponding reading guides.  If you were absent today, please be sure to read both sections of the story on your own and complete the reading guides. G1 - Writing Plans were DUE. I passed back Comparative Critique Final Drafts today. We went through the outline assignment together. Students had the rest of the block to work on revisions of their Comparative Analysis papers and to start working on their Outlines for the Research-Based Analysis.  Assignments: Research-Based Analysis Outlines are due next time. Final Drafts of the Comparative Analysis are due next time. Be sure to bring back the Rough Draft comment slip and number codes sheet. Print two copies for extra points.

G3/G4 - Vocabulary Worksheets DUE.  In class today, we started reading The Odyssey.  (NOTE: I have posted a copy of the entire text on Moodle.  I am still looking for a good audiobook… if you find one, please let me know.) We read "A Goddess Intervenes" (p. 1104) and "Calypso, the Sweet Nymph" (p. 1106-1109).  Students answered the worksheet questions as we read and discussed the story, then I collected the worksheet for those two pieces when we finished them. Next, we started reading the next section.  We were able to read "I am Laerte's Son" (p. 1110-1112), "The Lotus Eaters" (p. 1112), and most of "The Cyclops" (p. 1112-1117).  Again, students answered the questions on the study guide as we read and discussed it.  I collected the second worksheet from most of the students for safe-keeping. We will finish reading "The Cyclops" in class next time.  Assignments: If you did not read or finish the worksheets for the portions we read in class, try to do that for next time.  I posted the worksheets and the text on Moodle.   Start studying for the vocabulary test over List #1.
