November 30, 2016 (Gold)

G1 - Act III: Scenes 4-5 Review Sheet DUE.  Prior to some reading time, students were asked to go to the Book Talk Schedule to make sure they have signed up for Book Talk #3. We are coming down to the end of the semester, and there are very few days left for Book Talks, but the last one is due prior to Final Exams. We then read Act IV: Scenes 1-3 together, and I gave students a copy of Friar Lawrence's new "plan." For the rest of the block, groups worked on their Character Posters.  Assignment: Complete the Review Sheet for Act IV: Scenes 1-3. 

G2 - Research-Based Analysis Draft #1 DUE (approx. 2 full pages plus Works Consulted). Students peer-edited. The rest of the block was devoted to time for revisions and drafting.  Assignment: Complete Research-Based Analysis Draft #2 for next time (four pages plus Works Cited AND Works Consulted).

G3 - Argumentative Statements DUE. Students presented their Political Campaign Projects for the entire block today.  We will continue these presentations on Friday.  No Assignment!

November 29, 2016 (Blue)

B3/B4 - Political Ad Campaign Projects, Extra Credit, and One-Page Summaries were DUE today. In class, students were given three political issues to choose from for their Argumentative Statements and several articles to choose from for each issue. They were asked to type up 2-3 paragraphs about one of these issues (about a page typed & double-spaced, Times New Roman 12), using support from at least one of the articles. Students should include a claim, support from the article(s), and address counterarguments in each of their paragraphs.  Assignment: Complete the Argumentative Statement for next time. These will be statements will be presented in class with your projects on Thursday.

November 28, 2016 (Gold)

G1 - After some reading time, students were asked to write about their Dream Honeymoons in their journals. After sharing a few of these, we reviewed Act III: Scenes 1-3 then read and discussed Act III: Scenes 4-5 (which includes the “morning after the Honeymoon night"). We were able to read all of this together, and students worked on their review sheets as we read. Assignment: Finish the Act III: Scenes 4-5 Review Sheet for next time. Materials are posted on Moodle if you need them.

G2 - Outlines DUE. I went through the Plagiarism lecture and a sample paper. Students worked on their drafts for the rest of the block.  Assignment: Please draft out the introduction and one major section of your paper for next time (at least 2 full pages). Include a Works Consulted page, so we can start working on making sure your sources are documented and cited properly.

G3 - Political Ad Campaign Projects, Extra Credit, and One-Page Summaries were DUE today. B1 - Book Talk #2 DUE. We had seven Book Talks today. Students were given an opportunity to turn in late E-Learning assignments for full credit. We had a few minutes for students to review Act III: Scenes 1-3 prior to taking the quiz today. After the quiz, we read and discussed Act III: Scenes 4-5, and students began working on their review sheets while we read. Assignment: Finish the Act III: Scenes 4-5 Review Sheet for next time. Materials are posted on Moodle if you need them.

B3/B4 - Students were given the entire block to work on their Political Ad Campaign Projects today. Today was Day #3.  I am caught up on my grading for these classes, and all grades are current. Assignment: Continue working on your Political Ad Campaign Project. These projects are due as soon as you come back from Thanksgiving Break.

November 21, 2016 (Gold)

G1 - Book Talk #2 DUE. We had one Book Talk this morning. I collected Review Sheets for Act III: Scenes 1-3 and Words To Know Translation Exercise #3.  After some reading time, we quickly reviewed Act III: Scenes 1-3, then students took a short quiz.  For the rest of the block, students were placed in small groups to complete a STEAL chart for an assigned character. They were asked to finish the STEAL charts before the end of the block. Assignment: We'll work on the poster portion of this activity next time. There is no assignment over Thanksgiving Break. :)

G2 - Writing Plans were DUE. I passed back Comparative Critique Final Drafts today. We went through the outline assignment together. Students had the rest of the block to start working on their Outlines for the Research-Based Analysis.  There is a template on Moodle.  Assignments: Research-Based Analysis Outlines are due next time.  Print a copy for your binder.

G3 - Students were given the entire block to work on their Political Ad Campaign Projects today. Today was Day #3.  I am caught up on my grading for this class, and all grades are current. Assignment: Continue working on your Political Ad Campaign Project. These projects are due as soon as you come back from Thanksgiving Break.

November 18, 2016 (Blue)

B1 - We had five Book Talks this morning. I collected Review Sheets for Act III: Scenes 1-3 and Words To Know Translation Exercise #3.  (No one emailed me or contacted me for an extension.) We reviewed Act III: Scenes 1-3, then students were placed in small groups to complete a STEAL chart for an assigned character. They began working on their character posters before the end of the block. Assignment: Book Talk #2 is due from everyone by Tuesday. We'll continue the poster activity next time. You will also have a quiz over Act III: Scenes 1-3 on Tuesday.

B3/B4 - I collected E-Learning assignments from a small handful of students today. No one emailed me for an extension. Students were given the entire block to work on their Political Ad Campaign Projects today. I am caught up on my grading for these classes, and all grades are current. Assignment: E-Learning assignments are due on Tuesday. There will be no extensions beyond Tuesday, and they will not be collected late. Continue working on your Political Ad Campaign Project. These projects are due as soon as you come back from Thanksgiving Break.

November 17, 2016 (Gold)

G1 - We had 5 Book Talks today. After some reading time, students took notes over the material for “Pre-Act III” (on Moodle, if needed). From there, we started reading Act III: Scenes 1-2. Assignments: Finish reading Act III: Scenes 1-3, complete the review sheet, and do Words to Know Translation Exercise #3 for next time. After some review in class, you will have a short quiz over Act III: Scenes 1-3 next time.  Materials are posted on Moodle.

G2 - Comparative Analysis Rough Drafts (electronic drafts) DUE.  I asked students to type up their initial Inquiry Questions on Google Classroom so we could check for overlaps. Students were then given the rest of the block to work on research and Writing Plans. Assignments: Writing Plans are due on Monday. Please print a copy to turn in AND submit it on Google Classroom for me.

G3 - Students were given the entire block to work on their Political Ad Campaign Projects today. I was able to finally get caught up on my grading for this class, and all grades are now current. I apologize to everyone for the long delay. Assignment: Continue working on your Political Ad Campaign Project. These projects are due as soon as you come back from Thanksgiving Break.

November 16, 2016 (Blue) E-Learning Day - Work from home! :)

B1 - Instructions for today were sent out on Google Classroom earlier this week. They are also posted on Moodle. Students were asked to copy the Pre-Act III notes on the handout they were given in class last time. There is an extra copy posted on Moodle, if you need one.  Next, they were asked to complete Elizabethan Words To Know Translation Exercise #3.  I do not have this available electronically, so if you need one, I can send you something today if you email me. From there, students were given a few choices and loads of materials to choose from (all on Moodle). They are responsible for reading and understanding Act III: Scenes 1-3 and need to complete the corresponding review sheet.  Assignment: Please have the Translation exercise and the Review Sheet finished for Friday. If you are unable to do this, please email me to let me know you need an extension. You will have a quiz over this material on Tuesday.

B3/B4 - Instructions were sent out earlier this week through Google Classroom. Students were asked to take notes over Logical, Emotional, and Ethical Appeals on the handout they were given in class last time. There is an electronic copy available on Moodle if you did not receive it from me.  Next, they were asked to watch a viral video from a few years ago, and students needed to take notes as they watched the video to document several examples of the Logical, Emotional, and Ethical Appeals used in the video to hook the audience.  Assignment: Please complete the notes and the worksheet for Invisible Children for next time. If you are unable to access the information and need an extension, please email me to let me know.

 

November 15, 2016 (Gold)

G1 - We had five Book Talks today, then I passed back a small mountain of graded work. Students were given some time to study prior to taking the test over Acts I and II. Test Review Sheets were due today. After the test, they were given time to read.   Assignments: None! :)

G2 - Draft #3 of the Comparative Analysis was due for peer-editing today. Everyone also needed to turn in three potential inquiry questions for the Research-Based Analysis paper. I checked questions in class (as much as possible) today and gave students my opinions on their topics. After peer-editing, we reviewed Bibliography and Note Cards lectures (on Moodle) and the Writing Plan assignment (also on Moodle). Assignment: The Official Rough Drafts of the Comparative Analysis paper are due next time for my comments. Start working on gathering your chosen sources for your paper. The Writing Plan assignment is due on Monday, November 21.

G3 - In class today, we started the Political Ad Campaign Project. The assignment and rubric are posted on Google Classroom. This was Day #1. Students will have three days in class to complete this project, and it is due right after Thanksgiving Break.  I showed them a sample project and gave them quite a few ideas. Students may work on their own or with a partner, and they let me know their preferences in class today. I passed back a mountain of graded work in each class.  Assignments: For Thursday, we will continue working on the Political Ad Campaign Project. You might want to bring in some clothes for a "photo shoot" for your website and possibly for a commercial.

B1 - We had four Book Talks today, then I passed back some graded work. Students were given some time to study prior to taking the test over Acts I and II. Test Review Sheets were due today. After the test, they were given time to read.  I distributed the handouts and walked them through the expectations for Wednesday's e-Learning Day. Materials will be posted on Moodle at 8:30am on Wednesday. The instructions are currently posted on Google Classroom.  Assignments: Notes, Words to Know Translation Exercise #3, and Act III: Scenes 1-3 Review Sheet are all due on Friday unless you email me asking for an extension.  If there are issues or problems completing your assignment on Wednesday, please let me know.  I will be available to answer the phone or answer emails from 8:30-11:30am on Wednesday if you need something.
