March 14, 2019 (Blue)

B1 - In class today, we started with one last review presentation. Students turned in their journals, and I collected their copies of To Kill a Mockingbird. They then took the test over the novel. Students were encouraged to spend the rest of the block working or studying for other midterm exams. Assignment: Start a new pleasure reading book. We will have Book Talks again sometime after Spring Break.

B2 - Students were given a few minutes to study/review prior to taking the test over Greek List #6. No Assignment!

March 13, 2019 (Gold)

G2/G3/G4 - Topic and Thesis Worksheets were officially due by today for the Research Paper (includes extended time). I returned the topic and thesis worksheets I commented on from Monday. Students were given a Review Sheet for the Midterm Exam over Lord of the Flies. The rest of the block was given to students to review for the test.  Assignment: Review for the Midterm Exam. Put notecards on your shopping list for Spring Break. We will begin the research paper process the day we return from Break.

March 12, 2019 (Blue)

B1 - In class today, we made a master list of the journal topics from this quarter. Those are posted on Google Classroom in the Stream. Students were given a test review sheet for the midterm To Kill a Mockingbird test on Thursday. Students were given the entire block to review for the test and prepare their journals. Assignment: Journals are due on Thursday. The Midterm will also be on Thursday.

B2 - In class today, we wrapped up presentations for Greek List #6. Assignment: Study for the test over List #6 for Thursday.

B4 - I returned Comparative Critique Rough Drafts. In class today, students began watching I Feel Pretty for Microtheme #3: Using a Source as a Lens. That was all we had time for. We will finish the movie in class on Thursday. Assignments: Documentary DEN's are due on Thursday. Final Drafts of the Comparative Critique are due on Friday by 3:30 pm. Please be sure to print two copies and return the comment sheet to me before you leave on Spring Break.

March 11, 2019 (Gold)

G2/G3/G4 - I returned the Bucket Lists today with my feedback. Students were then given a Topic worksheet to help them finalize the information they will be pursuing for their research papers after Spring Break. We then went through a short handout on Thesis Statements, and students wrote preliminary thesis statements for their papers. The last thing we went through was a Source Information handout which details the kind of information students will need to document from their sources in order to avoid plagiarism issues later.  Topic and Thesis Statement worksheets were due by the end of the block. Assignment: If you did not turn in your topic and thesis statement worksheets today, please turn them in at the beginning of the block on Wednesday without penalty. That will give those of you who need it extended time to get it finished.

March 8, 2019 (Blue)

B1 - In class today, we finished the movie, To Kill a Mockingbird, and students met in small groups for a few minutes to discuss some of the major similarities and differences between the book and the movie. For the rest of the block, students worked on the Film Analysis Assignment posted on Google Classroom. Assignment: Film Analysis due on Tuesday.

B2 - In class today, Greek Unit 6 Presentations and Review Materials were DUE. Students began their presentations, and we took notes for the whole block. We will wrap-up presentations for this list on Tuesday. Assignment: None!

B4 - Microtheme #3 Practice DUE. In class, we discussed the practice microthemes, and students gave each other feedback to help them with ways to be sure their papers are good for the final draft. Comparative Critique Rough Drafts were not returned today. Assignment: If you have not finished your Documentary DEN, please do so over the weekend. Those are due next week.

March 7, 2019 (Gold)

G2/G3/G4 - In class today, we finished watching clips from The Bucket List (as needed), ran through a Google Slides presentation about the Research Paper and discussed ways to narrow down their topics. For the rest of the block, I showed a TED Talk and a website with additional ideas for students to consider when creating their lists. At the end of the block, their lists of Top Ten things were due. Assignment: None!

 

March 6, 2019 (Blue)

B1 - In class today, we watched more of To Kill a Mockingbird. We were unable to finish it in class today, so we will do that on Friday. I am changing the calendar slightly to adjust for more time on that. No Assignment!

B2 - Students were given some time to review prior to taking the Unit 5 test today (the Midterm). We then went over the list for Greek Unit 6 and students were assigned their presentations for Friday. Assignment: Those of you who are presenting need to submit your presentations and review material on Google Classroom prior to class on Friday.

March 5, 2019 (Gold)

G2/G3/G4 -  We had some technology issues in Gold 2 today, but the rest of the day seemed to go as planned. We began with some discussion of the English 10 Research Paper expectations (handout) and began watching some videos to help spark the brainstorming process. I shared a music video as well as clips from The Bucket List. That was about all we had time for today. We will continue discussing the expectations and requirements in class on Thursday. Assignment: The Top Ten Bucket List handout will be collected at the end of the block on Thursday. In addition, I asked students to get a pack of notecards and have those ready as soon as we get back from Spring Break.

March 4, 2019 (Blue)

B1 - In class today, we wrapped up Chapter Review Presentations. For the rest of the block, we began watching the movie, To Kill a Mockingbird. Students were asked to take some notes throughout the movie. No Assignment!

B2 - Review Games and Instructions DUE. We spent the entire block in the library today playing the review games groups created for Unit 5. Assignment: Test over Unit 5 (Review of Lists #1-4) will take place on Wednesday. The Quizlet has been posted on Google Classroom for you to review as well.

B4 - Comparative Critique Draft #2 DUE. In class today, students spent time in timed peer-editing sessions. We discussed common problems and areas of concern. The rest of the block was dedicated time for revision and conferencing. Assignment: The official Rough Draft of the Comparative Critique paper is due to me on Wednesday through Google Classroom. You will receive brief digital comments and feedback to help you revise for the Final Draft.

G2/G3/G4 - Comparison Charts for Lord of the Flies and Lost DUE.  Students had the entire block to take the short essay test over Lord of the Flies today.  No Assignment!
