April 30, 2019 (Gold)

G2/G3/G4 - Subtopic Section #3 DUE. Students took the NWEA test for Reading Comprehension in class today. After students finished the test, they were given back graded work and a Conclusion worksheet.  Assignment: Conclusion Paragraphs are due on Thursday. ALL Late work for the research paper drafting process is due on Thursday. ALL Final Drafts of the Research Paper will be due on Monday.

April 29, 2019 (Blue)

B1 - In class today, students took the NWEA Reading test. After the test, they were asked to work on their Days #2-3 packet for the research paper project. Assignment: Days #2-3 Packet, including digital notecards on Google Slides, due on Wednesday on Google Classroom.

B2 - Review Lists DUE for Unit 10 (lists 6-9). Students had the entire block today to work on their review games for the Unit 10 test. Assignment: Review Games are due on Wednesday. We will be in the library for the entire block on Wednesday. The test over Unit 10 is Friday.

B4 - Comparative Analysis Rough Drafts DUE. Students were asked to review the Bibliography and Note Cards lectures (on Moodle). Students were then given the entire block today to work on their Writing Plans. Assignment: Writing Plans are due on Friday. I will return the Comparative Analysis Rough Drafts to you as soon as I can.

April 26, 2019 (Gold)

G2/G3/G4 - Subtopic #2 Rough Drafts DUE. I collected those, then students had some time for pleasure reading. After that, students had the rest of the block to work on their drafts for Subtopic #3.  Assignment: Subtopic #3 is due on Tuesday. You will have NWEA testing in class on Tuesday and Thursday of next week, so class time for working on the research paper will be very limited. Please try to work ahead!

April 25, 2019 (Blue)

B1 - After Pleasure Reading, we spent the rest of the block on the Days #2-3 Packet. I checked the Day #1 packets while students were working. Days #2-3 is the Note-Taking part of the process. Students are creating digital notecards on a Google Slides presentation. Assignment: Work on the Days 2-3 packet. Those are due on Wednesday. We will have NWEA testing on Monday and Wednesday in class, so work time will be limited during class.

B2 - After giving students some time to study and wrapping up one of the presentations, students took the test over Greek List #9 today. For Unit 10, we are going to do a review of Lists #6-9, and small groups will put together a list for Monday and a review game for Wednesday. On Monday, students will have the entire block to work with their small groups on their games and instructions. We will then spend the block in the library on Wednesday playing games again, like we did for the Midterm with Unit #5.  Assignment: Review Lists are due on Google Classroom on Monday.

B4 - Three Inquiry Questions DUE. Rough Draft #2 Comparative Analysis papers DUE. In class today, students spent some time on peer-editing. I went through inquiry questions and gave students feedback. I distributed copies of the Research-Based Analysis assignment handout as well as the handout for the Writing Plan assignment. That was about all we had time for today. Assignment: Comparative Analysis Draft #3 (the official Rough Draft) is due to me on Monday for brief written and digital comments.

April 24, 2019 (Gold)

G2/G3/G4 - Subtopic #1 Rough Drafts DUE. I collected those, then students had some time for pleasure reading. After that, students had the rest of the block to work on their drafts for Subtopic #2.  Assignment: Subtopic #2 is due on Friday.

April 23, 2019 (Blue)

B1 - Article of the Week #6 Reflections DUE. Students had some time for pleasure reading. I then asked them to brainstorm some ideas for their project pieces in their journals. For the rest of the block, students worked on the Day #1 packet for their Research Papers. Assignment: Day #1 Packets are due on Thursday.

B2 - We wrapped up presentations for Greek List #9 today. Assignment: Prepare for the test over Greek List #9 for Thursday.

B4 - We had interruptions today for the AP Testing meeting. Draft #1 of the Comparative Analysis paper (2 paragraphs) was DUE today. I looked at those and returned them for feedback. There was some time for peer-editing while students attended the meeting. When everyone returned, we went through the Google Slides presentation about the Research-Based Analysis paper. Assignments: For Thursday, prepare a full rough draft of the Comparative Analysis paper. In addition, submit three possible Inquiry Questions for the Research-Based Analysis. I will look over your options and help you narrow it down to one topic.

April 22, 2019 (Gold)

G2/G3/G4 - Introduction Rough Drafts DUE. Students had some time for Pleasure Reading prior to working on the first section of the paper for Subtopic #1. I showed and went through a sample so students know what they are shooting for. I then conferenced with students on the Works Cited pages and worked to get grading caught up as much as possible.  Assignment: Rough Drafts of Subtopic #1 section are due on Wednesday at the beginning of the block.

April 19, 2019 (Blue)

B1 - After some Pleasure Reading time, I walked through the Multi-Genre Research Paper Project with the class. The information is posted on Google Classroom. From there, students drew the name of a god, goddess, or monster to research for this project. Students had an opportunity to swap, if needed. Brainstorming continued for a few minutes. For the remainder of the block, we played a Review Game. Assignment: Article of the Week Response #6 (Refugees) due on Tuesday at the beginning of the block. Discuss the project with your families in order to have a solid idea or theme in mind when you come to class next week.

B2 - Presentations and Review Materials for Greek List #9 were DUE. We began presentations for List #9. Due to the Career Fair, we had several people out today. We will catch-up as quickly as possible on Tuesday. Assignment: None.

B4 - Organizational Plans/Ideas for the Comparative Analysis DUE. I took a look at those, and we discussed ideas for the paper. Students had the opportunity to review/rewatch parts of the movie. We did that for the rest of the block today. Assignment: For Tuesday, please draft out an introduction and one analysis paragraph. Get started. We will begin discussing the research paper in class next week, and we will have some overlap between units for a few weeks. The more you can do towards the Comparative Analysis now, the less stress you will have in the coming weeks. 

April 18, 2019 (Gold)

G2/G3/G4 - Typed Works Cited pages were due on Google Classroom at the beginning of the block. Students had 15-20 minutes of Pleasure Reading time. After that, I distributed the rough draft pages for the Introduction paragraph and directed students to the typed outline I gave them which details what they need in the Intro. The rest of the block was given to students to work on their Introduction paragraphs while I conferenced with students about their Works Cited pages.  Everything that was turned in during class has been graded, and all grades reflect what I am seeing in terms of student effort toward the paper at this point. Assignment: Rough Draft pages for the Introduction paragraph are due to me at the beginning of the block on Monday. I will give students feedback on those so they can begin to type up their Final Drafts at that time. We will set one block aside for each part of the paper. Feedback is given in chunks to expedite the process for all of us.  Students are encouraged to turn their work in on time in order to maximize points and the quality of the feedback they will receive from me.

April 17, 2019 (Blue)

B1 - Review Games DUE. In class today, I gave the kids some time to wrap up their games, pleasure reading time, and a new Article of the Week. Responses are due on Tuesday. The AOW is posted on Google Classroom this week due to the number of pictures in the article. After giving the kids some time to read the article, we started playing some of the review games as a class.  Assignment: AOW Responses are due on Tuesday.

B2 - Test: Greek List #8. After the test, I assigned presentations and review for Greek List #9.  Assignment: If this is your week to present, please have your presentation and review materials submitted on Google Classroom prior to class on Friday.

B4 - In class today, we discussed students' inquiry questions and started organizing/laying out their papers. Assignment: Please submit an inquiry question and a detailed organizational plan for your paper by Friday.
