October 31, 2019 (Gold)

Yesterday was a funky day. No classes met.

G1/G2/G4 - In class today, we reviewed the notes on "Shakespearean Drama," which students were asked to copy from Moodle for today. Next, we went over some Elizabethan Words to Know, notes over "Romeo and Juliet," and we read/discussed the Prologue and the beginning of Act I: Scene 1. Materials are available on Moodle. Assignments: Article of the Week Response #6 (Sleep Part 2) is due on Monday. Please finish reading Act I: Scene 1 for Monday as well. Materials are posted on Moodle.

October 29, 2019 (Blue)

B2 - Comparative Critique Final Drafts DUE. Double-Entries for the Schectman article DUE. In class today, we discussed the article for the majority of the block. At the end of the block, I handed out the next article and a description of the Comparative Analysis paper. We'll discuss those next time. Assignment: Read Jane Yolen's article, "America's 'Cinderella'" and do a double-entry notebook assignment for it. That will be the last double-entry grade.

B3 - Digital Assignment for "MOVE" DUE. In class today, students jigsawed 15 articles in their groups and reported info back to the class to cover an extended history of the LRA movement, Joseph Kony's whereabouts, and the current status of Invisible Children. Assignment: Article of the Week Response #6 (Gun Control) is due on Friday.

B4- In class today, we reviewed the notes on "Shakespearean Drama," which students were asked to copy from Moodle for today. October 28, 2019 (Gold)

G1/G2/G4 - We started with Pleasure Reading then moved into the 6th Article of the Week: "Sleep Part 2." Students were given 20 minutes in class to start reading, annotating, and writing their responses. From there, students were asked to write a half-page journal about "That Yucky Love Stuff." I shared several songs with them while they wrote. After sharing a few of their responses, students completed and discussed an "Opinionnaire." After that discussion, students were asked to copy notes on "Shakespearean Drama" (posted on Moodle). Assignments: Copy the notes on "Shakespearean Drama." Article of the Week Response #6 (Sleep Part 2) is due on Monday 11/4.

October 25, 2019 (Blue)

B2 - Temporary groups gave their Cinderella presentations in class today. I distributed the homework article. That was all we had time for today. Assignments: Read "'Cinderella' and the Loss of Father-Love," by Jacqueline M. Schectman, and do a DEN for Tuesday. In addition, please complete the Final Draft of the Comparative Critique. Be sure to print two copies and bring back the comment sheet you were given.

B3 - We started with Pleasure Reading then moved into the 6th Article of the Week: "Gun Control." Students were given 20 minutes in class to start reading, annotating, and writing their responses. From there, we re-watched and discussed the TED Talk and two additional articles relevant to our study of Invisible Children's movement. The rest of the block was given as an opportunity to start watching the next video, "Move," and completing the digital worksheet posted on Google Classroom. Assignments: Complete the video assignment and worksheet posted on Google Classroom for Tuesday. AOW Response #6 (Gun Control) is due on Friday, 11/1.

G1/G2/G4 - After spending a little bit of time reading for pleasure, we finished the packet from last time, then we read through and discussed "Shakespeare's World," p. 926-929 (on Moodle, if needed) and compared the information to what we read and discussed in the previous packet. Students were given the rest of the block to copy the notes (also posted on Moodle).  Assignment: Finish taking the notes, if needed. All materials, including the textbook reading, are posted on Moodle.

October 23, 2019 (Blue)

B2 - Students were given a block to work on their Cinderella Presentations in their temporary groups today. At the end of the block, I returned Comparative Critique Rough Drafts with comments and Microtheme #3. All grades are current right now in this class.  Assignments: Handouts are due to me tomorrow by 3:30 pm on Google Classroom if you want me to take care of the photocopies for you. Final Drafts of the Comparative Critique are due on Tuesday, 10/29. Be sure to print two copies and return the comment sheet you were given today.

B3 - Digital Assignments for the video about Invisible Children were DUE today. After pleasure reading, I asked students to respond to the video and write their ideas/opinions about whether or not the US should have intervened at that point to locate Joseph Kony. After some initial sharing and discussion, we began a timeline of notes on this subject which featured a variety of news articles and video clips about this issue. That is where we stopped for today. We'll continue notes and discussion next time. No Assignment!

October 22, 2019 (Gold)

G1/G2/G4 - We started with Pleasure Reading. From there, students were asked to write a "Snapshot Journal" of a moment from Fall Break. After sharing some of these moments, we began reading and highlighting a packet about William Shakespeare. Assignment: None!

October 21, 2019 (Blue)

B2 - Microtheme #3 DUE. After collecting the papers, I distributed a final sign-in sheet for IU's college credit commitment. Next, students read "Universality of a Folktale" and went through some discussion questions in their groups. We then discussed this as a class. Groups worked together to put a list of "Cinderella" elements together, and we walked through those. I gave students the "14 Variants of Cinderella," which we discussed together, then groups were assigned for the Cinderella presentations which will be given in class on Friday. Assignment: Talk to your presentation group about what you want to do for your presentation for Friday. Bring supplies and anything you need to work on for Wednesday.

B3 - We started with Pleasure Reading. From there, we went into notes on "Logos, Pathos, Ethos." Students were then given a digital/video assignment. All of this is posted on Google Classroom. Assignment: Complete the video assignment worksheet for Wednesday.

B4 - We started with Pleasure Reading. From there, students were asked to write a "Snapshot Journal" of a moment from Fall Break. After sharing some of these moments, we began reading and highlighting a packet about William Shakespeare. Assignment: None!

October 4, 2019 (Gold) MIDTERMS

G1/G2/G4 - Students were given the entire block to take their Midterm Assessment in class today. Assignment: None! Have a great Fall Break!

October 3, 2019 (Blue) MIDTERMS

B2 - Documentary DENs DUE. In class today, we finished watching I Feel Pretty. Students were given an opportunity to review parts of the movie, as needed, and they declined. Assignment: Microtheme #3 is due on Monday when we return from Fall Break. I will return Comparative Critique Rough Drafts to you at that time. 

B3 - We started with Book Talks and wrapped those up for the first quarter. Character Analysis Essays were due by the end of the block. No Assignment! Have a great Fall Break!

B4 - We started with Book Talks and wrapped those up for the first quarter. Students had the rest of the block to take the Midterm Assessment. No Assignment!
