December 19-20, 2019 (Gold/Blue) FINAL EXAMS

G1/G2/G4/B4 - After wrapping up any remaining Book Talks, students took the Final Exam. 

B2 - Final Drafts of the Research-Based Analysis were DUE. I collected those, and students celebrated with a party. I asked them to complete a Course Survey for IU, and they wrote letters of warning or encouragement to next semester's W131 class.

B3 - Journals DUE. Students took the Final Exam.

December 18, 2019 (Blue)

B2 - In class today, I returned Comparative Analysis Final Drafts. I met with the last three students for conferences about the research paper. Students had the entire block to work on revisions and plan a party for Friday. Assignment: Please submit your Final Draft of the Research-Based Analysis before class on Friday. Print two copies and remember to bring back your Rough Draft comment sheet/WC pages, if applicable.

B3 - In class today, we wrapped up Book Talks. Students were given the rest of the block to work on review sheets for the test/final over Antigone.  Assignment: Prepare for the Final Exam.

B4 - Article of the Week Response #9 DUE. In class today, we wrapped up Book Talks. Students were then given about 15 minutes to review/study for the test over Acts III, IV, and V. I collected Test Review Sheets and awarded Bonus Points to those who attempted to turn something in. Assignment: Prepare for the Final Exam. The Review Sheet is posted on Google Classroom. All grades are current in Blue 4 as of 5:39 pm on 12-18-19.

December 17, 2019 (Gold) Two-Hour Delay

G1/G2/G4 - I was out for a conference today. Students turned in Article of the Week #9 (Teen Rebellion) and studied for the test prior to turning in the Test Review Sheet. Students then took the test over Acts III, IV, and V. For the remainder of the block, they were asked to start studying for the Final Exam. The Final Review Sheet is posted on Google Classroom. Assignment: Prepare for the Final Exam for Thursday.

December 13, 2019 (Gold)

G1/G2/G4 - After Pleasure Reading and Book Talks, we went over the Review Sheet for Act IV: Scenes 4-5, and then we began reading the last portion of the play, Act V: Scenes 1-3. In G1, we almost finished. In G2, we did finish. In G4, we finished. Assignments: Complete the review sheet for Act V: Scenes 1-3. Finish reading if needed (on Moodle). Complete the test review sheet and study for the test for Tuesday. Article of the Week Response #9 is also due on Tuesday. 

December 12, 2019 (Blue)

B2 - In class today, I met with students to conference with them about their Rough Drafts. Students worked on other assignments or on their revisions the whole block. Final Drafts will be due on Wednesday of next week unless I decide to push that date back to Friday.

B3 - After Pleasure Reading and Book Talks, we created a class list of journals from this semester. The list is posted on Google Classroom. Journals will be collected on Wednesday of next week. For the remainder of the block, we read and discussed Scenes 4-5 and Ode 4 of Antigone. Assignment: Get your journal ready.

B4 - After Pleasure Reading and Book Talks, students received Article of the Week #9 (Teen Rebellion) and had about 20 minutes in class to begin reading, annotating, and responding. Next, we went over the Review Sheet for Act IV: Scenes 1-3 and finished reading Act IV (as time allowed). Assignments: Finish reading Act IV, if needed, (materials are on Moodle), and complete the review sheet for Act IV: Scenes 4-5. Article of the Week Response #9 is due on Wednesday of next week.

December 11, 2019 (Gold)

December 10, 2019 (Blue)

B2 - In class today, we went through some "non-negotiable" items required on the Rough Drafts. From there, students had three 15-minute rounds of peer-editing. The rest of the block was theirs to revise/edit their own papers. Rough Drafts were officially due to me by 11:45 AM this morning. Students may print a copy of their Works Cited page for a small amount of bonus points added to their participation scores at the end of the semester. No Assignment. We will begin individual conferences over the rough drafts tomorrow.

B3 - After Pleasure Reading and Book Talks, we read Scenes 1-3 and Odes 1-3 of Antigone in class today. No Assignment.

B4 - After Pleasure Reading and Book Talks, we reviewed the Act III: Scenes 4-5 Review Sheet and started reading Act IV: Scenes 1-3. If we did not finish these scenes in your class, please finish for next time. Assignment: Book Talks will continue this week. If you are not caught up on the reading for Romeo and Juliet, please catch up. The materials are all posted on Moodle.

December 6, 2019 (Blue)

B2 - Comparative Analysis Final Drafts DUE. Students were also asked to have a draft of their Research-Based Analysis papers for peer-editing today. Less than half of the class had more than one page ready. Kids worked on their papers the whole block. Assignment: The Official Rough Draft of the Research Paper is due to me by the end of the block on Tuesday.

B3 - After Pleasure Reading and Book Talks, I gave students the Family Tree notes for Antigone. We discussed the background of the play, and we began reading in class today. We were able to read the Prologue and Parados. That was all we had time for. No Assignment!

B4 - After Pleasure Reading and Book Talks, we had a "Free-Write Journal." After sharing several of those, we then reviewed Act III: Scenes 1-3 and went over the worksheet for that section. With the rest of the block, we started reading Act III: Scenes 4-5 and students completed the worksheet as we read/discussed it. Assignment: Book Talks will continue next time.
