For the foreseeable future, please check Google Classroom for all information about your assignments. If you have questions, please feel free to email me. This blog feels counterproductive at this point when everything we are doing is online until we are released to go back to the building.

 

March 13, 2020 (Blue) NO SCHOOL

The building is open today from 10-1. If you have anything you need from the building, please feel free to come in to get it. Please be flexible and patient. We have no idea what the next few weeks will bring. Watch for posts on Google Classroom.

B3 - If you can come in today to pick up a copy of Lord of the Flies, I will be here until 1:00.

March 12, 2020 (Gold) MIDTERMS - END OF FIRST QUARTER

G2/G3 - Test Review Sheets and Novels DUE. In class today, students took the Midterm Assessment. Grades are posted and current for both of these classes. 

G4 - In class today, we finished watching I Feel Pretty as well as two related episodes of CSI. Assignment: Microtheme #3 should be completed and submitted on Google Classroom by Monday, March 30, at 1:50pm. 

March 11, 2020 (Blue)

B1 - We finished the last few minutes of the movie. Students were given about 30 minutes to wrap-up the Film Analysis Assignment, which was DUE by 9:15. For the rest of the block, students were given a review sheet and time in class to work on it. We went through most of it together in class by the end of the block. Assignment: Finish the review sheet and be prepared for the midterm over the book next time.

B3 - Snapshot Journal: Spring Break - Write a half-page snapshot journal about the moment you are most looking forward to on Spring Break. Include as many details in the image as possible. For Extra Credit, I want you to take pictures when/if that moment happens and write a half-page reflection about how that moment was similar/different from what you expected. Submit your response on Classroom by Tuesday, March 31 at the beginning of the block. From there, we had several Powerful People presentations. For the remainder of the block, students worked in their small groups to discuss the study guide questions for Book III: Chapters 1-2. Assignment: Finish the book for Friday.

B4 - Film Analysis Assignment DUE. In class today, students were given a review sheet and time in class to work on it. We went through most of it together in class by the end of the block. Assignment: Finish the review sheet and be prepared for the midterm over the book next time.

March 10, 2020 (Gold)

G4 - In class today, students began watching and taking notes over I Feel Pretty for the 3rd Microtheme assignment. Assignment: Documentary DENs are due on Thursday. 

March 9, 2020 (Blue)

B1 - In class today, we almost finished watching the movie. Students were asked to begin working on the Film Analysis Assignment (posted on Google Classroom). Assignment: The Film Analysis Assignment is due on Wednesday by the middle of the block. We will finish the movie, and you will have a little bit of time to wrap-up your assignment before it is due at the middle of the block. AOW #5 is also due on Wednesday.

B3 - In class today, I collected AOW #5 (“Global Water Crisis”), then students took a quiz over Book II. After the quiz, students were asked to pick a major theme which is discussed in "The Book" in Chapter 9 to write about and explore further in their journals. From there, students met in groups to discuss what they had chosen and share ideas. Students presented their information about their "Most Powerful People." The rest of the block was dedicated time for discussion over Book II: Chapters 9-10 and reading. Assignment: Read Book III: Chapters 1-2 for Wednesday.

B4 - AOW #5 DUE. Students had time in class to work on the Film Analysis Assignment (posted on Google Classroom). Assignment: The Film Analysis Assignment is due on Wednesday. 

March 6, 2020 (Gold)

G2/G3 - AOW #5 DUE. In class today, we finished watching the movie. Students had some time in class to begin working on the Film Analysis Assignment (posted on Google Classroom). Assignment: The Film Analysis Assignment is due on Tuesday.

G4 - Official Rough Drafts of the Comparative Critique were DUE today for my feedback. Practice Microthemes were also DUE. In class, we looked at several of them together for feedback. Students had time to discuss and share ideas within their groups about how to improve on the next assignment. We started watching a relevant episode of CSI in class. We'll finish it soon.  Assignment: Documentary DENs are due on Thursday of next week.

March 5, 2020 (Blue)

B1 - In class today we wrapped up our Chapter Review Presentations for To Kill a Mockingbird. I distributed Article of the Week #5 ("Old People") and gave students time in class to begin reading, annotating, and responding to the prompts. For the rest of the block, we began watching the movie for To Kill a Mockingbird. Students were asked to take some notes as they watched the movie. Assignment: AOW #5 is due on Wednesday. 

B3 - Journal: What freedoms are you willing to fight or even die for? Several students gave their Powerful People presentations. For the rest of the block, students discussed the Review Questions for Book II: Chapters 6-8 in their small groups while I conferenced with students about their research papers. Assignment: Read Book II: Chapters 9-10 and be ready for a long quiz over Book II on Monday. AOW #5 is also due on Monday. 

B4 - In class today, we watched the movie for almost the entire block. We finished it in this class today. Assignment: AOW #5 is due on Monday. 

March 4, 2020 (Gold)

G2/G3 - We began watching the movie for To Kill a Mockingbird. Students were asked to take some notes as they watched the movie. Assignment: AOW #5 is due on Friday.

G4 - Comparative Critique Rough Draft #3 was DUE for peer-editing. I spot-checked those and gave feedback as I did. Once I returned them, we peer-edited for 12 minutes for three rounds. With the remainder of the block, I introduced Microtheme #3: Using a Source as a Lens. We rewatched "Pretty Hurts" for a practice draft. Assignments: The Official Rough Draft of the Comparative Critique are due to me on Friday. Practice Microthemes are also due on Friday. Documentary DENs are due next week, so please get those done ASAP.

March 3, 2020 (Blue)

B1 - Chapter review presentations were DUE on Friday by the end of the block. Students presented the entire period. Assignment: None! We will wrap up presentations on Thursday.

B3 - We started with Article of the Week #5 ("Global Water Crisis"). Students were given 20 minutes in class to begin reading, annotating, and responding to the prompt. From there, we went to a half-page journal entry about the "Wars" the US is currently fighting (both literally and figuratively).  After lunch, we had 4 Powerful People Presentations. For the rest of the block, students worked in their small groups to discuss the questions for Book II: Chapters 1, 4, 5, while I conferenced with students about research papers. Assignments: Read Book II: Chapters 6-8. AOW #5 is due on Monday.
